Why Royal is the Flushometer of Choice

ROYAL VS. REGAL
The Sloan Royal Flushometer is the Rolls Royce of flush valves! It is one of the most widely used and recognized flush valves in the world. Many have been in use for decades and are still going strong. So what makes the Royal the flush valve of choice?
One of the most important features of the Sloan Royal flush valve is the dual filtered by-pass. This feature was incorporated into the Royal design in 1998, and is the primary difference between pre-‘98 and post-‘98 Royal flush valves. Over time, the sediment that exists in water can build up and clog the diaphragm assembly of any flushometer. The dual-filtered by-pass of the Royal enables this sediment to be diffused throughout the control chambers of the valve. This allows the Royal valve to continue working much longer between cleanings than a Regal. The Regal diaphragm has only one hole for the water to flow through, and the size of that hole is of utmost importance. If the hole becomes enlarged or damaged in any way by sediment or debris, the valve will cease to function properly, and the diaphragm would need to be replaced. This can be very costly and time consuming. For example, a major league baseball park using Regal flush valves recently had a water main break outside the stadium. Dirt and debris were introduced into the water supply, and damaged the Regal diaphragms. Every Regal valve in the park had to have its diaphragm replaced. If they had Royal valves with dual-filtered by-pass diaphragms, they could have simply popped off the plastic ring, rinsed the parts of any debris, and been back in business in no time!
Another important aspect of the 1998 redesign was the inclusion of Permex synthetic rubber into the diaphragm. Ordinary rubber, such as the kind used in Regal diaphragms, will deteriorate over time due to chloramine in the water supply. If you’ve ever handled a deteriorating rubber gasket, flapper, or diaphragm, you know how the black residue easily rubs off on your hands. With Permex, the Sloan Royal diaphragms will last four times longer than ordinary rubber. That’s quite a savings, both in parts and labor! Not only is the diaphragm made of Permex, but the handle packing, stop seat, and vacuum breaker are molded from Permex as well. That’s a lot of durability built in to the Sloan Royal.
Sloan Royal flush valves also utilize vandal-resistant stop caps. Whereas the Regal caps can be screwed off by anyone, the Royal stop caps spin in place, and are much more difficult for vandals to remove.
The Sloan Royal flush valve also comes equipped with an ADA compliant metal oscillating non-hold open handle with a triple seal handle packing. The high back pressure vacuum breaker flush connection with one-piece bottom hex coupling nut rounds out the features of this top-of-the-line flushometer.
